Eigg Blasda with Eco Drama

Eco Drama is on tour this autumn with their brand new show ‘The Forgotten Orchard’, a new play suitable for ages 6+, exploring the topic of Food & the Environment.

They will be touring the show to schools, festivals, community events and Apple Days throughout September, October & November 2012.

Emily Reid from Eco Drama says:

Setting off in the Magic Van – our vehicle run on recycled vegetable oil, Eco Drama will begin our tour on the beautiful Isle of Eigg, part of Blasda 2012. The show will then continue touring to 23 Glasgow primary schools, the Edinburgh Botanic Gardens Apple Days (20th & 21st October), Wester Hailes in Edinburgh for WHALE Arts 20th Anniversary celebration, finishing with performances at the Harbour Arts Centre on the 14th & 15th November.

Show Overview: A show dedicated to apples, a food with a truly fascinating history, as seen through the eyes of Katy and her Granddad.

The Forgotten Orchard is a funny and emotional tale that draws inspiration from apples to ask questions about the food we eat; where does our food come from, how far has it travelled, what does it taste like, and crucially, can we grow our own? The story re-welcomes to our plate the charismatic Scottish apples of our heritage, bringing with it a local food message that is pertinent to our current times.

The Scotsman

“…a delicious morsel of story-telling…an excellent way to inspire learning and teaching about our connection to food…” I Eve Keepax, Policy Officer (Food and the Environment), Eco Schools Scotland

“It made me think about where I get my apples from and if I’ve ever tasted a Scottish apple” I Zoe, aged 11

“An excellent performance – the children (and teachers) loved every minute” I Jemma Harrison, P5 Teacher, Balornock Primary

The Glasgow schools tour is funded by the Climate Challenge Fund. Alongside the show, teachers and pupils will receive free orchard training and fruit trees to help establish a school orchard, and teachers will also be supported with a Classroom Activity Pack, educational poster and a variety pack of seeds to further inspire pupils learning in the area of Food & the Environment.

All audiences will have the opportunity to taste some heritage apples after the show and chat further with the actors about orchards and all things green fingered.
