Blasda 2011/12

A great thanks for everyone who helped host a Blasda event in September 2011, it was a huge event far beyond our expectations for this first, tentative year, with thousands of people involved.

Special thank you to our supporters CASP and to our wonderful designers D8, but most of all to communities and producers who’s energy made it happen.

We hope to be back next year and would welcome feedback, ideas, hopes from you about how to develop a local food feast for Scotland. Please send your thoughts to mike@fifediet.co.uk

Thanks!

Kilfinan Community Forest

Kilfinan Community Forest Company is a charitable enterprise formed to work with and for the local community to manage and develop their forest, creating opportunities for a sustainable future for the local economy, recreation and tourism, the environment and education.  Funded by the Scottish Government’s Climate Challenge Fund, we have set up a community allotment site to promote local food growing and healthier eating.  Currently part way through our first growing season, we have arranged a  Composting and wormery workshop with Ronald Gilchrist – ecologist, vermiculturalist and inspirational speaker.  After a Pot-luck Picnic lunch, Ron is going to show us how to make the most of our food and garden waste to grow the tastiest and most nutritious food and help us to set up our beds in the polytunnel to be productive all through the winter.

Kilfinan Community Forest

The Kilfinan project began in 2005 with the launch of the National Forest Land Scheme. The community recognised the need to increase local self sufficiency in the area by providing the opportunities for jobs, training, homes and in developing the basic resources in harnessing the forest resource and give opportunities for our young people to live and work here.
