Blasda 2011/12

A great thanks for everyone who helped host a Blasda event in September 2011, it was a huge event far beyond our expectations for this first, tentative year, with thousands of people involved.

Special thank you to our supporters CASP and to our wonderful designers D8, but most of all to communities and producers who’s energy made it happen.

We hope to be back next year and would welcome feedback, ideas, hopes from you about how to develop a local food feast for Scotland. Please send your thoughts to mike@fifediet.co.uk

Thanks!

Portobello

PEDAL Porty (Transition Portobello) have great plans for their Blasda event which kicks off a week before most on Saturday 3rd September. What a great line-up they have on:

“In association with Take One Action and Woodcraft folk, we’ll kick off at 10.30 with a programme of short films on local food.  Hear about the future of farming, about how to keep chickens in your backyard and about how local communities are growing their own all over the UK.  Try out the cycle-powered ‘Guerilla Cinema’ in our lovely yurt — and make your own energy in the Powerpod.

At 12.30 we’re inviting you to join us in a local food picnic.  Bring food you’ve grown or made — or buy some at the market — for a relaxed and sociable outdoor lunch.”

Blasda Launch

Blasda launched today at the centre of local food shopping in Edinburgh – the ridiculously well-stocked Earthy Foods. Big thanks to everyone who allowed us to clamber all over their shop causing mayhem. Earthy – who are opening a  new shop in Portobello just as PEDAL launches it’s own Blasda celebration says:

“Scottish, unsprayed strawberries and rasps are now in full fling. Delicious organic salad leaves from Phantassie bring you a taste of summer as do Jim Craig’s magnificent tomatoes – in all shapes and sizes. Organic summer fruits are coming in along with tasty new season tatties, baby carrots, and fresh young onions. And don’t forget Edinburgh’s only organic butchery counter – right here at Earthy – and run by Sascha and Hugh Grierson, whose Perthshire based, Soil Association certified farm produces amazing beef, lamb, pork and chicken.”

We have loads of new Blasda events to announce next week.

Post your suggestions for great local food cafes or shops to us in comments below. And if you want to host a local food feast get in touch and we’ll send you a pack of posters and a ‘Blasda Toolkit’.

To get involved call Mike or Lisa on 01592 871 371.

PEDAL Porty

PEDAL ➝ Portobello Transition Town is a community led action group. We think that Portobello can and should produce more of the things that we need to sustain ourselves and thrive closer to home. We work towards this through a range of working groups. Currently we have: food, orchard, energy and land reform groups and we also do occasional transport focussed events. Our food projects are: Read More >>
